Barbórka Cup Report
There were excellent performances from both Wayne Healy and Amy O’Driscoll at the Barbórka Cup International in Zabrze Poland on December 9th & 10th. This artistic gymnastics competition featured gymnasts from Poland, Ukraine, Finland, Slovenia and Ireland. In the men’s competition Wayne went clean on all pieces scoring 69.0 and finishing 13th overall and qualifying for the team-gym competition. Amy, similarly performed well in the ladies competition finishing 19th with a score of 44.316. She was particularly pleased with her vault where she scored 13.5 for a straight Tzuck! In the team-gym competition which is a knock-out event, Wayne was paired with a female gymnast from the Ukraine. With solid performance by both in the first round Wayne and his partner were lying 2nd overall, however a fall from the Ukrainian gymnast on floor led to they being eliminated at the end of the 2nd round. Overall this was a very successful event for Ireland and one we hope to participate again in future years. A special thanks to our hosts in Zabrze who made us feel most welcome all weekend.
