Luke Carson finished the qualification stages at the European Championships in Birmingham in 16th place.
He competed on all 6 pieces of apparatus and scored 76.650.
Carson said: “I felt very confident and I couldn’t have prepared any better, but my nerves destroyed me. I need to be more relaxed and not let my nerves get the better of me.”
The 20-year-old was disappointed with his performance and said even though he didn’t fall his scores were very low on each piece.
Luke Carson, Anthony O'Donnell (19) and Geff Rellis(19) stepped up to the podium in subdivision one.
The men were competing for apparatus rankings, but were devastated not to be able to compete in the team event due to the fact that team-mate Rohan Sebastian was unable to fly to the U.K due to the ash cloud and was subsequently forced to withdraw.
The Irish team started off the competition on Vault. Carson competed a full twisting Yurchenko and scored 14.500 for a solid performance.
The team then moved to Parallel Bars. Carson's routine went clean and he scored 13.050. Rellis had a fall on his dismount, resulting in a 1.0 deduction, but still achieved a respectable 12.525. O'Donnell followed with a clean routine to score 12.525.
Geoff Rellis
On High Bar Carson scored 12.375 and O'Donnell performed a clean routine to score 11.700.
Anthony O'Donnell
The next rotation saw the team compete on Floor. Carson was penalised for a low landing on his one and a half punch full tumble and a step out of the floor area, but still achieved a score of 12.900. Rellis performed a clean routine to score 13.150.
On Pommel Horse a stall in the middle of Carson's routine resulted in a minor deduction and he scored 11.750. O'Donnell unfortunately experienced two falls and scored 8.175.
The team finished their competition on Rings. Carson performed a good, solid routine and dismounted with a full twisting double back to score 12.025.
O'Donnell showed his strength on this piece of apparatus. A routine full of double pike and tuck front somersaults resulted in a score of 12.700.
