New Minister for Sport attends Federation AGM
The new Minister for Tourism, Cluture & Sport, Mary Hanafin TD, addressed the collective leaders of Irish Sport last night at the Federation of Irish Sport's AGM in Sport HQ, Dublin.

Speaking to the attendees, the Minister highlighted her passion for sport and her belief in the cultural & societal importance of sport to Ireland as a nation. The minister also commented on the economic importance of sport in these difficult times echoing the message the Federation has been promoting through the 'Sport Matters' campaign. The Minister also specifically highlighted participation, good governance and Women in Sport (WIS) as key areas of focus for the coming year.

Irish Sports Council CEO, John Treacy, also addressed the meeting echoing the comments of the Minister while highlighting & praising the success of the 'Sport Matters' campaign in limiting the cut to the 2010 sports budget but also stated that NGBs should be under no illusion that similar cuts will be a reality going into 2011 stressing the importance that NGBs should develop their own income streams and develop greater self sufficiency.

Irish Gymnastics Chief Executive Officer, Ciaran Gallagher, and Policy & Welfare Officer, Dermot Howlin, were in attendance representing IG. Ciaran Gallagher was successfully re-elected to the Federation Executive Committee.
