Day two of the World Championships at the O2 arena in London are done and dusted and the Irish girls gave it their all but failed to qualify for overall or apparatus finals.
Rebecca Wallace, Sarah Wedel and Aimee O’Driscoll put on a sturdy performance to finish in 79th, 89th and 90th position out of 146 competitors.
Up first to compete for Ireland was Sarah Wedel on beam.
Her performance got off to a shaky start and the beam specialist had two falls, but she managed to pull herself together for a clean vault and floor routine.
Wedel said: “I’m a bit unhappy about beam, but happy with floor and vault, considering the judges scoring was tough. I’ll hopefully be back next year with a better beam routine.”
The next session saw Aimee O’Driscoll compete a solid floor followed by an equally solid vault and bars.
O’Driscoll said: “I’m really, really happy with my performance. It’s an experience-you’re not expected to win a medal but you are expected to do your best.”
The final Irish competitor of the day was Rebecca Wallace and things did not go according to plan for the 16-year-old.
A fall on vault was quickly followed by a tentative beam and bar routine, but once the nerves were put aside, the young talent pulled a confident floor routine out of the bag to finish on a high.
Wallace said: “My routines didn’t go to plan but I finished good on floor. I just wanted to go out and feel confident.”
