| 2006 NORTHERN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS-Report & Results |

The Irish delegation returned this week from the 2006 Northern European Gymnastics Championships in Norway. The Women's team put in a good performance to finish 7th in the team event - Grainne Johnston from Muckross made floor final however with a slight twinge in her ankle she decided to opt out - prioritising next weeks departure for the World Championships in Denmark instead. On the men's side Wayne Healey and Geoff Rellis flew the flag for Ireland - for Wayne it was his 2nd Northern Europeans but for Phoenix's Geoff Rellis it was his introduction to the international circuit. Both boys had strong performances on Vault - Geoff narrowly missing out on vault final. From Northern Ireland Luke Carson made vault final placing 8th and Matthew Cosgrave was unlucky that an error on his dismount on Pommel cost him his place in the finals. All the gymnasts and management at Irish Gymnastics now look forward to 2007 when we will host this superb event in Dublin - watch out for more info in the coming weeks!
